Film production built around the project

Dowie Projects produces videos for mining, energy, infrastructure, technology and industrial companies from exploration and early development through to operations and beyond. Based in Adelaide, South Australia, Dowie Projects works in metropolitan, regional and remote locations across Australia and internationally.

We understand that perception, trust and understanding can be the make or break of a project or company. An organisation is shaped by its communications—for better or worse.

Dowie Projects specialises in telling the story behind a project, the people that make a company and the ideas that shape its future. Every production fulfils a clear purpose, whether through a single film, a multi-video campaign or scheduled coverage across months or years. Our collaborative approach means that we go deeper to understand the ‘why’ behind your communications and build a package unique to your needs.

We offer a full service from idea through to delivery, including creative development, research, location and access planning, directing, cinematography, interviews, drone footage, editing, colour grading, music licensing and delivery of final products in preferred formats.

01

Standalone videos

A focused production built around one audience and one clear purpose. It may introduce a company, explain a project or technology, document a capability, or make a complex subject understandable to people outside the organisation.

ExamplesProject and technology explainers, company introductions, capability films, commercials, recruitment films, and sustainability or social-performance videos.

02

Campaigns and video packages

A connected suite of films for different audiences, channels or stages of a project. A principal film can be supported by cutdowns, interviews and social versions, giving the organisation one consistent body of material across its website, presentations, paid media and social channels.

ExamplesPublic information campaigns, brand and recruitment campaigns, launch packages, interview series, social cutdowns, and vertical or platform-specific edits.

03

Ongoing project coverage

Scheduled filming at key stages of development, construction, commissioning and operation. Each visit records progress, technical detail and the people doing the work, while building an organised footage library that can support immediate communications and future productions.

ExamplesConstruction and commissioning updates, development milestones, progress films, stakeholder updates, project records, and footage for future campaigns.

Common uses

Public campaigns, stakeholder and community engagement, investor and tender communications, internal communications, business development, recruitment, project launches, websites, presentations, conferences and social channels.

Ben Dowie filming on location in Nepal

Twenty years behind the camera

Dowie Projects is led by Ben Dowie, an Adelaide-based director, cinematographer and editor with 20 years’ experience across commercial, documentary, branded and corporate production.

Ben’s work has taken him throughout Australia and overseas—from industrial sites in the outback to the mountains of New Zealand and the Himalayas, across Europe and into the Middle East and Central America. He is accustomed to working in remote and demanding environments where access is limited, plans change and a small crew needs to make careful decisions quickly. Ben’s work has received more than 25 awards from the Australian Cinematographers Society, and several films have been selected as Vimeo Staff Picks.

This background shapes the work Dowie Projects produces for clients today. Ben brings a strong visual eye, sensitivity with people and an understanding of how to find the particular character of a place, organisation or project. The aim is not to impose a standard corporate formula, but to make work that feels unique to its subject and holds an audience’s attention.

How we work

From idea to final delivery

01

Define the scope

Ben works directly with clients from the first conversation through to delivery. The scope of work is defined through an understanding of audience, purpose, required outputs, locations and timing. Each production is quoted individually, based on the crew and equipment required, logistics, post-production and final deliverables.

02

Plan the shoot

Pre-production planning considers what each deliverable needs to communicate and the material required to build it. This may include research, interview development, story structure and visual references. Shot priorities and practical arrangements are agreed in advance, allowing time on location to be used efficiently.

03

Build the right crew

A production can be as compact as Ben working alone, or scale to include a sound recordist, camera assistants, lighting crew, stills photographer and additional camera units. Ben draws on trusted people with whom he has longstanding working relationships, giving each job the support it needs while maintaining a consistent standard of work.

04

Deliver the product

Because Ben remains closely involved in both filming and editing, the decisions made during planning and on location carry through to the finished film. Clear review stages, careful attention to detail and direct communication keep feedback organised and the post-production process efficient.

Long-form and field production

In addition to commercial projects, documentary work has shaped how Dowie Projects operates: thorough preparation, efficient travel, calm decisions as conditions change, and sensitive observational work with people on location. These long-form productions show that experience across international and remote locations.
